Information for mentors

Mentors might be identified by young women involved in the project – we ask each young woman to select anyone they already know who they would like to be their mentor. Sometimes young women who are NEET struggle to identify someone they already know that they would like to mentor them. We are also interested to hear from anyone who might like to volunteer some of their time to support a young woman in the project who does not know anyone able to mentor them.

To be a mentor, you would need to be aged 18 years or over.

The Looking Forward Project involves:

  • Meeting with the researcher, the time and location of these meetings will be flexible
  • If you are happy to, we’ll ask you to sign a consent form and we’ll then ask you to answer some brief questions about yourself
  • We’ll provide you with information, training and guidance resources to understand how to support the young woman as their mentor
  • Then you’ll be invited to answer some more questions about your hope, wellbeing and mentor experience about 16 weeks later
  • You might also be invited to take part in an interview to talk about your experiences of the project in a bit more detail
