Young Women

HOPEFUL was designed with and for young women. HOPEFUL is designed to be used by young women with the support of a mentor. HOPEFUL also contains stories of hope from lots of young people.

It would be helpful to understand the skillset I need to achieve hopefulness.

HOPEFUL is currently only available for young women involved in The Looking Forward Project. You can find out more about the project and contact the research team if you are interested in becoming involved.

Hope is important to give you room to wander around. It’s easy to be trapped in your own mind, fixed in problems or mood. It’s not a way out, but provides the mind a little room to wander around. A refuge, in that sense.

Why do we think HOPEFUL is relevant to young women?

We co-designed HOPEFUL with young women who are not in education, employment, and training. We are now testing HOPEFUL as a new approach to helping this group of young women to have better health and wellbeing. HOPEFUL aims to do this by increasing hope. Hope means to believe in yourself and your ability to work towards goals that really matter to you. We know that young women who are not in education, employment, and training can often struggle with being hopeful. Yet we believe that through simple techniques everyone’s hope can grow.

This short video tells you a little more about what young women have told us about their hope and what support they would like to help it grow.
